in 2021 I moved from a 60 x 100 foot lot in San Jose to 5 acres in Olympia WA. About 4 acres is forest, about 1 acre is landscaped and 1 acre is my garden/grass area. I'm trying to replace invasive plants (himalayan blackberry) with native plants (salal, evergreen huckleberry). In my garden area, I have vegetables & berries , but I've planted lavender, lilacs and bulb flowers. I'm trying to create specific areas for wildflowers, andelions, and other early blooming native plants. I have a few fruit trees. I have some grassy areas where I delay mowing until after dandelions bloom. The garden will have sunflowers, tomatoes, berries, greens. My issue is that I have so many tall cedars and Douglas firs that I don't have a lot of sunny areas. But I'm trying to plant for native pollinators and 'commerical' bees. My attempts to plant native milkweed have failed.
