We live on a suburban 1/3 acre lot with a ranch style 1,400 square foot home in the middle. Over the past 17 years we have planted much of our lawn to create a bird and pollinator habitat. I am increasing native plants, now though have some already, perhaps many. We are in a neighborhood where most people do turf with a few landscape plants only. We have some turf areas, but do not use fertilizers or pesticides or herbicides. We mow that as infrequently as possible. We have planted a number of herbs and perennial flowers, dwarf fruit trees, bushes, and other plants. I started some raised vegetable (organic) gardens when a neighbor removed some trees creating more light.
