My beautiful Lemon Queens bloom very well----but should I be cutting the seemingly dead heads off? Will this help new ones grow---or do I have to leave them on there and grow new plants from seed? I've started some new seed -----but I'm hoping to get more flowers from these plants. What should I do? Cjosse
plant dying
i noticed right after my sunflowers started to bloom, that a few were already dying off. it looks like the whole plant is dead now. the whole plant really didnt have a very long life. did i do something wrong?
dead heading does help
I would suggest cutting them and then at the end of the season, leave some for bird food!
Thanks Gretchen--
I started new plants. I haven't been reporting because I haven't had flowers. The plants are 3 to 4 feet high now, so I'm hoping that I can get them blooming by September. Being in central CA --once they start blooming --they should last til the end of October---and I will report on them to the very last day, I promise! Cjosse
PS--I traveled to a BEE Farm in PIRU, CA and gave them a copy of a your article in the Sunset magazine and told them I was part of it.
