creating a beehive

i live in glendale, california and am blessed w/a large garden - sunflowers, vegetables,citrus trees, fig tree, guava tree & a fifty year old rosemary tree that 3 yrs ago buzzed w/ the sound of bees. i've watched, year to year, as their number declinded, but they are coming back.
i'd like to start a beehive - can you tell me how to go about doing this?

Maybe you could contact your State's Extension University that deals in agriculture and they could set you up with a professional beekeeper that can show you what to do. Another thing that might help is this site: www.green-house.tv On the left hand side under "forms" they have a sectioin on beekeeping. They say that they have classes and other helps they offer on this subject. I hope this helps!
