Hello!
I had OK germination, Lost a few seedlings to rabbits, and now i have a couple 3 foot high plants and a couple little guys...
I'm fairly far north, so no flowers yet - I haven't done any observations because, well no bees yet LOL. Anyone know if that's right? Or should i be entering 0?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Neither my bee balm or coneflower have flowers yet either :) I guess i'm stuck for a bit - hopefully next week!
My other suggestion would be lavender as in my garden anyways it attracts the most!
Wait for flowers
You can't wait until you have flowers to sample. There are some other plant species you can use if you'd like to get started.
In 2009, we have expanded the plants from which you can collect data. If you have limited time, please ONLY do the Sunflower!! If you have a little bit of extra time, add the Goldenrod (Solidago candensis).
We have a set of "key plants" that we've chosen to focus on - though you can collect data on other plants if you would like:
Bee balm
Cosmos
Rosemary
Tickseed
Purple coneflower
We chose these because there are not many varieties so, we can be sure that the reward offered by each plant is fairly similar from garden to garden. We'd love to pick a plant like sage but, there are thousands of varieties. While we have included rosemary, we strongly encourage everyone to plant natives!
