The sunflowers (from seeds sent by GSP) are towering, maybe 8 ft. tall, but only just beginning to form buds! I'm impressed with their, um, virility, but is this variety supposed to grow that tall?
And, anyone else having late blooming in the mid-West?
Response from the WEST to No Blooms in MO
Jaz "zee" gardener - Hello MO....8 feet? Hm.m.m - mine are barely 2 feet tall and blossoms are just forming. It has been cold here this summer .....I have just commented that while I am patiently waiting for my sunflowers to bloom - I am enjoying the sweet surprise of honeys visiting my garden to feast on an oregano plant that I have allowed to "flower" this year. Amazing....at any given time there are 7 - 10 honeys visiting the small 20" diamer plant.
Same here in Minnesota!
The head is formed on one of them, but no bloom yet... too cool here as well, and cloudy! I'm hoping for a warm August, September, October to make up for lack of a warm summer! :P
We have plenty of bees here too, on all my flowering garden plants! :)
