Hello:
Today is October 4, 2009. - - I am a new forum nember and my wife and I live in Dunwoody, GA.
Back in 1986 I rode a Harley Davidson across Kansas, and was totally enamored with the large fields of sunflowers. - - Since then I have admired them but never tried to grow them as a plant. (I have the original "black thumb", and as a gardner - I am a failure...)
Yesterday, a neighboor who I occasionally assist with outdoor projects gave me three pretty sunflowers, in a pot, as a gift. Each of the four sunflower stems is about1.5' - 2' tall, and (without the yellow petals) each flower has a seed/pod center of about 1.5" - 2" in diameter.
Winter weather is on the way and if possible I would like to save my new sunflowers. - - HELP!!!
Should I keep them in the pot, in a warm sunny area of our home, and transplant them outside next Spring?
Should I dig a hole now and plant them outside as soon as possible?
Should I just water them and admire them as they are; and buy some seeds next Spring?
Any advice will be appreciated. I would like to see my three sunflower plants grow next year...
