My sunflowers are over 10 feet tall!

I grew my sunflowers in my Square Foot Garden and they have reached a height of 10 feet +!
I think I will have to use my binoculars to see the bees. The blooms opened today but it is raining, I can't wait for the rain to stop so I can start doing my data sheet, and get some photos of the bees and flowers.

I got a late start with the project so mine are only around 5' and no buds yet but I have several varied beds around my place and have seen more honeys this year than the last three combined. They are really liking tne Phlox that is blooming in my front yard especially the ones that get the most sun. I have two patches. Even though I'm not blooming I'm still watching. I'm excitedly waiting to start my reporting. Thirty minutes just watching my flowers is great relaxation and it's not being lazy, it's science!Buzzzzz on y'all!

Re: My sunflowers are over 10 feet tall

Mine are over ten ft. tall as well! I have flowers opening and I have at least 15 buds on each plant if not more! I planted mine in the corner of my vegetable garden. I have one flower that is just about 5 ft tall and it has a flower on it. I looked at it this afternoon and there was two honeybees on it. Their legs were golden and heavy with the nectar. I saw bees on each flower head!

wow, ours are probably about 7-8 feet tall and we thought *they* were giant. Two flowers have started opening so far and we're joking that our 7YO apiologist will need to use a ladder to record her bee observations.
Meanwhile the local bees are abuzz around our lavender bush, which our kids affectionately refer to as "the Bees' restaurant"

WOW! I too thought my "Three Lemon Sisters" were pretty tall at 8 feet. :) Great little garden you have there, Josh!

Deborah...I too have lavender (2 French and 2 English) plants. It is absolutely amazing the amount of bees there are on them from dawn to dusk. :) The Russian Sage is blooming and they too have many honeybees feeding.
