Are the seeds provided Certified Organic? If not, is there a source for organic seeds?

If that link doesn't work, just go to parkseed.com and type in sunflower in the search box.

Organic sunflower seeds

Momz flower power
This is a wonderful idea. Organic might make a difference too especially since we do not know what the effect of GMO seeds (if they are) may have on the pollen and therefore the bees. Do the sunflowers have to be native? There are some certified organic suppliers online. Though I didn't see any that specified they were native. Perhaps they would like to donate some seeds for this project?

Certified Organic

The seeds are not certified organic. I've been looking for the last week for a supplier who can do certified organic. Isn't if amazing that I can find the cultivars as certified organic but not the native, wild one! As soon as I find a supplier, I'll make them available. Please pass on any leads!

Let us know...

... when you find some organic seeds. I've found some that claim to have been used by natives, but I'm not sure they fit the needs of the great sunflower project. But as I've heard rumors of colony collapse disorder being related to GMO plants, I'm hesitant to use anything other than organic seed. On a plus side, I've seen a great many more honey bees in my yard this year than I have in the past 3 years....

It might help us all in looking if you could supply the latin name of the specific variety we'll need. Thanks!

Hi Gretchen, you've probably

Hi Gretchen, you've probably already tried Seeds of Change or Seedsavers? What about some of the botanical gardens that specialize in growing native? Good luck!
