bees

Hi - My garden is currently awash in honeybees. They are all over the blooming Rosemary ('Blue Spires' and 'Prostratus'). Also a couple of big, fuzzy, black/gold 'bumblebees'.The weather is hot - 78 degrees today - and everything is budding out. Hope this helps the bees. Gnana

Former Bee Keeper

Good Day,

I just wanted to say that I am excited about joining your "great sunflower organization" and to say that I was a Bee Keeper about 20 years ago. I loved it. We had about 250 hives at one time. Actually, because of an illness of bees. foul brood disease, we had to destroy all our hives. It was devastating......

Just wanted to introduce myself.....

Regards,

Susan

What about Wasps & Yellow Jackets?

I have a lot of wasps and yellow jackets, will they interfere with my bees doing thier job, or are they just as important?

No one ever says anything about wasps, so I was curious.

wasps

I have the same question. I have plenty of wasps on my sunflowers. Should I count them?

wasps

I just learned the answer to our question on the FAQ page. It said that wasps are carnivores and bees are vegetarian. So I guess that what we thought are wasps are actually bees. Now a couple days later: I found pictures of "pollen wasps" on the internet. I'm afraid that the data we are collecting may not be valid unless our questions are answered. I think these are wasps, but not sure:

re: wasps

Therlam, your picture is gorgeous!!

They look like yellow jackets to me. I hope I'm wrong - I do not like the yellow jackets and we have quite a few.
