I have my seeds, and have started some. Only one is growing at this point. I have not started any more because of our abysmal spring weather. It's almost mid-May and night time temperatures are still in the 30s. My garden was covered with 6 inches of snow in April. Very unusual for the Pacific Northwest. I probably will not have any flowers by the target date. Everything is blooming way behind schedule. I also have poor germination issues. I noticed that the seed packet said to plant the seeds one inch deep, but these seeds are too small for that depth. That might be part of the problem with germination, although I planted my seeds at one quarter inch, and still had only one germinate. I will sow the others on the surface and keep extra warm and see what happens.
Not Pony Express. American Meadows sent us a batch of bad seed. Unfortunately, we didn't catch it before sending out a couple thousand packets. However, once we did, we asked them to fill our packets with different seed. We just got the new seed last Monday (5/5) and all the remaining packets were sent out on Thursday and Friday.
I planted the seeds about two weeks ago...and haven't had any germinate yet. Is it possible to get more or do they take a little longer than expected to germinate?
Aargh. One of the batches of seeds that American Meadows has had an abysmally poor germination rate. I only got seven plants from the 10 seeds that I planted. Would you send an email to sfbee@sfsu.edu and let us know where you'd like us to mail you some new ones? We'll get them out on Monday. I'm hoping this new batch of seeds is much better!
We had a delay because we got a bad bunch of seed from American Meadows. They got us new, hopefully higher quality seed on Monday 5/5 and we shipped all our seed out on Thursday and Friday. Apologies.
Still no seeds. I registered the day the article appeared in The Chronicle. Should I buy other seeds? I forget what kind of sunflower it was supposed to be.
I signed on 2 weeks and 6 days ago and am still waiting for my seeds. I'm so anxious to get started on this project. Are my seeds coming? Maybe they got lost in the mail. Hmmm.
