Just signed up today. We already have a fair amount of bee activity in our yard from citrus, mexican birds of paradise and lantana so am looking forward to seeing what happens with the sunflowers.
given the summer heat here, should I still plant full sun? Should I wait until September until evenings cool again? We have winter frost come mid december but there is a short growing period from September until then.
I'm a novice gardener so input appreciated on how to grow the seeds here in the desert.
growing sunflowers in Phoenix
We lived in the greater Phoenix area years ago. Every year we grew sunflowers in our back yard along the south wall of our fence. Always had great results! We planted in the March and April. Every few weeks we put new seed out to have flowers in bloom longer. Heat was never a problem.
